The Maharashtra government has announced a new rule that makes it compulsory for cab and auto drivers to know Marathi. This decision is aimed at promoting the local language and culture. From 17 August, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) will strictly enforce this rule, and drivers who fail to comply may face heavy fines and even cancellation of their permits.
