Maharashtra authorities have begun a coordinated operation to locate citizens reported missing in the recent Nepal floods, while the Thane municipal corporation has issued an advisory for local residents.
Heavy monsoon rains have caused severe flooding across Nepal, displacing thousands and leaving many people unaccounted for, including Indian nationals travelling in the region. Reports of missing citizens reached Indian authorities, prompting an immediate response.
The Maharashtra state government announced the formation of a task force comprising police, disaster response teams and volunteers to trace and assist the missing individuals. Officials said the team will liaise with Nepalese counterparts, monitor border crossings and use available data to identify those who may have been stranded or swept away.
In parallel, the Thane Municipal Corporation issued an advisory urging residents to stay alert, avoid low‑lying areas, and cooperate with any rescue or verification activities initiated by the state task force. The advisory also reminded citizens to keep emergency contacts handy and report any information about missing persons.
State officials emphasized that the search operation will continue until all reports are verified, and they have pledged regular updates to the families of the affected citizens.
