Maharashtra FDA Sees 12,083 Inspections, Suspends 603 Licences in 3‑Month Crackdown

Under the leadership of Tukaram Mundhe, the Maharashtra Food Safety and Standards Authority conducted over 12,000 inspections and suspended 603 food business licences in a three‑month enforcement drive.
The Maharashtra Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) completed 12,083 inspections across the state between January and March, a record for the agency.
Led by Director Tukaram Mundhe, the drive targeted food establishments that failed to meet safety and hygiene standards, resulting in 603 licences being suspended.
The suspended licences include restaurants, bakeries, and cold‑storage facilities that were found to have serious violations such as improper storage, contamination, and lack of required certifications.
The authority has announced that it will continue monitoring the suspended units and will offer a chance for compliance before any permanent revocation.
