The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration seized 6,495 kg of substandard food items valued at Rs 24.92 lakh in a statewide enforcement drive.

Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carried out a coordinated raid across the state, resulting in the confiscation of 6,495 kilograms of food products that did not meet prescribed safety standards. The seized items are estimated to be worth Rs 24.92 lakh, underscoring the scale of the operation.

The crackdown targeted manufacturers and distributors suspected of supplying substandard or adulterated food, a violation that can pose health risks to consumers. FDA officials inspected premises, collected samples and seized the stock to prevent further circulation in the market.

Authorities said the action is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen food safety enforcement in Maharashtra, aiming to protect public health and ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act. The seized goods will be destroyed following laboratory analysis, and legal proceedings are expected against the responsible parties.

The FDA has urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food products, reinforcing the department's commitment to curbing food fraud across the state.
