The Maharashtra government announced today that the enrolment deadline for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has been extended to 10 August. This decision comes after a surge in registrations, with 61.82 lakh farmers already signed up under the scheme.
PMFBY, launched in 2016, offers crop insurance to farmers covering losses due to natural calamities, pests, and price fluctuations. The extension aims to give more farmers a chance to secure coverage before the monsoon season.
Agricultural officials said the additional 20 days will help farmers complete paperwork and obtain necessary documentation. They also urged those who have not yet enrolled to act quickly, as the deadline is approaching fast.
The state has been actively promoting the scheme through local offices and outreach programmes, ensuring that even remote villages are aware of the benefits.
