The Maharashtra government is preparing a draft law aimed at regulating coaching institutes following the recent NEET examination leak.
Maharashtra's education department has announced a draft bill that seeks to bring coaching centres under stricter oversight after a leak of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper was traced back to such institutes. The proposed legislation would require all coaching institutions to register with the state, disclose fee structures, and adhere to standardized curricula. Non‑compliance could attract penalties, including suspension of operations.
The move comes as authorities investigate the source of the NEET leak, which raised concerns about the role of private tutoring hubs in compromising exam integrity. By tightening regulations, the state aims to create a more transparent environment for students preparing for competitive exams.
Education officials said the draft will be presented to the state cabinet for approval before being introduced in the legislative assembly. If enacted, the law could set a precedent for other states grappling with similar challenges in the private coaching sector.
