The Maharashtra government has earmarked ₹250 crore to modernise its traffic control system and will roll out a mobile ‘Traffic School on Wheels’ to educate commuters.
The state cabinet approved a budget of ₹250 crore to overhaul Maharashtra’s traffic management infrastructure. The funds will be used to install advanced signalling, surveillance cameras and data‑analytics tools at major intersections across the state.
Alongside the hardware upgrade, the government will introduce a mobile “Traffic School on Wheels” that will travel to schools, colleges and public spaces to conduct road‑safety workshops. The initiative aims to reduce accidents by improving driver awareness and promoting disciplined road behaviour.
Officials said the first fleet of equipped vans will be operational by the end of the quarter, with plans to expand the program to all districts within a year. The project is part of a broader effort to curb congestion and improve commuter safety in Maharashtra’s rapidly growing urban centres.
