During today’s Bhasma Aarti at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, priests fashioned a facial likeness of Lord Mahakal from ash, and observers reported the deity’s third eye opening.

Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga hosted a special Bhasma Aarti today, drawing large numbers of devotees to witness the ritual. The ceremony, part of the daily worship schedule, featured the creation of a detailed facial representation of Lord Mahakal using sacred ash collected from the temple’s fire pit.

Priests carefully molded the ash into a recognizable visage, known as a mukharavind, and placed it before the main lingam. As the aarti progressed, participants claimed that the third eye of the deity, depicted on the ash face, opened, an occurrence regarded by many as a divine sign.

Temple authorities noted that the phenomenon was observed by several senior priests and recorded for archival purposes, but they refrained from attributing any miraculous interpretation beyond the ritual’s traditional symbolism. The event underscores the continued importance of ritualistic art in Hindu worship at one of the country’s most revered Shiva shrines.
