The Madhya Pradesh health department has removed the Chief Medical Health Officer (CMHO) of Balaghat district after a series of child deaths raised concerns about local health services. The decision, announced by the state health ministry, aims to restore public confidence and tighten oversight of medical facilities in the area.
Dr. Manoj Pandey, currently serving as CMHO in the neighboring Dindori district, has been transferred to Balaghat and will assume responsibility for the district’s health administration with immediate effect. Officials said Dr. Pandey will review ongoing health programmes, address gaps identified after the fatalities, and coordinate closely with hospitals and primary health centres to prevent further incidents.
The move comes amid heightened scrutiny of Madhya Pradesh’s rural health infrastructure, with authorities pledging stricter monitoring and faster response to medical emergencies.
