The Madhya Pradesh health department has issued a 24‑hour ultimatum for 90 private hospitals participating in the Ayushman Bharat scheme to obtain NABH accreditation, threatening action against those that fail to comply.
The health ministry of Madhya Pradesh has moved to make NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) certification mandatory for private hospitals that are empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Officials say that 90 hospitals across Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior currently lack the accreditation and have been given a strict 24‑hour window to secure it.
The directive, described as a "decisive phase" of the scheme, warns that any hospital failing to obtain the certificate within the stipulated time will face punitive measures, including possible suspension from the Ayushman network and loss of reimbursements.
State health officials emphasized that NABH accreditation ensures standardized quality of care, patient safety and infrastructure, aligning private providers with the government's goal of delivering reliable tertiary services under the flagship health insurance programme.
The move follows earlier warnings to private facilities to upgrade their services, and the administration says it will monitor compliance closely, conducting spot checks and verifying certificates before the deadline expires.
