Madhya Pradesh HC seeks clarification on two‑child rule for govt employees with third child

The bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court issued a notice to the state administration seeking a definitive answer on the applicability of the two‑child norm to government employees who have a third child after taking up a post. The court emphasized that the policy, which restricts certain benefits to families with two or fewer children, must be interpreted clearly to avoid legal ambiguities.

In addition to the policy query, the court directed the government to furnish, within fourteen days, the register of First Information Reports (FIRs) filed in connection with illegal mining activities across the state. This dual request underscores the judiciary's focus on both social welfare regulations and environmental law enforcement.

Legal experts note that the clarification could affect eligibility for housing, promotion and other service‑related perks for a sizable number of state employees. The government’s response is expected to be submitted to the court by the stipulated deadline.
