Governor Mangubhai Patel has given his assent to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill passed by the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, moving it to the President for final approval.
Earlier today, Governor Mangubhai Patel signed off on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill that was cleared by the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. His assent marks the final state-level step before the proposal is forwarded to the Union government for the President's approval.
The UCC bill seeks to replace personal laws based on religion with a common set of civil statutes applicable to all citizens. Among its key provisions are a ban on the practice of triple talaq and a prohibition of polygamous marriages, aiming to ensure gender equality and legal uniformity.
With the Governor's approval, the bill will now be transmitted to the Ministry of Law and Justice, which will seek the President's assent.
