From October 15, petrol pump operators in Madhya Pradesh will no longer accept UPI transactions exceeding ₹2,000, as per a new directive.

The Madhya Pradesh government has issued a directive that, effective October 15, petrol pump dealers will stop processing UPI payments above the ₹2,000 threshold. The rule applies to all fuel stations across the state and is intended to standardise digital transaction limits at retail fuel outlets.

Under the new guideline, customers can continue to use UPI for purchases up to ₹2,000, while larger payments will need to be settled through cash, credit or debit cards, or other accepted methods. Dealers have been instructed to update their point‑of‑sale systems accordingly before the compliance date.

The move is expected to affect daily commuters and commercial vehicle operators who frequently top up fuel in larger quantities. State officials have indicated that the limit will help monitor high‑value digital transactions at fuel stations, although no further details on enforcement mechanisms have been released.

Petrol pump owners have been advised to inform customers of the change and display the new payment policy prominently at their outlets. The directive does not alter fuel prices; it solely addresses the mode of payment for amounts exceeding the specified limit.
