Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh unveiled a scheme that will credit Rs 25,000 directly into the bank accounts of 1.22 lakh students across the state. The one‑time transfer is aimed at enabling the beneficiaries to buy laptops, a tool the government says is essential for modern learning.
The scheme targets students enrolled in higher secondary and undergraduate programmes who meet the income and academic criteria set by the state education department. Payments will be processed through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, with verification based on existing school and college records.
Madhya Pradesh joins several other states that have launched similar laptop subsidy programs in recent years, seeking to bridge the digital divide in rural and urban areas. Officials expect the initiative to boost digital literacy and improve academic outcomes, especially as online education continues to expand.
The government has not disclosed a timeline for the disbursement, but has indicated that the funds will be released in the coming weeks after the final eligibility list is confirmed.
