Madhya Pradesh Allows 12th Pass Students Direct Lateral Entry to Polytechnics from 2026-27

From the 2026‑27 academic year, Madhya Pradesh will permit students who have completed class 12 to join the second year of polytechnic diploma programmes, cutting the course duration to two years.
The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a new lateral entry scheme that will become effective from the 2026‑27 academic session. Under the rule, candidates who have cleared the 12th standard will be eligible to enrol directly in the second year of any state‑run polytechnic diploma course, bypassing the first year. This move is expected to reduce the total study period for a diploma from three years to two, thereby accelerating the supply of technically skilled graduates.
The policy aims to address the growing demand for skilled manpower in the state’s manufacturing and services sectors. By allowing students to start at the second level, the government hopes to make technical education more attractive to school leavers who might otherwise opt for traditional degree programmes.
Implementation details will be released by the Directorate of Technical Education later this year, including the list of eligible institutions, admission timelines and the documentation required for the lateral entry process.
