Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is in negotiations to sell a minority stake in its clean energy subsidiary to Japan's Itochu Corporation, aiming to strengthen its green energy portfolio.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has entered into talks with Japan’s Itochu Corporation to sell a minority stake in its clean energy arm, L&T Energy Solutions. The deal, if finalized, would bring in a strategic partner with strong expertise in renewable technologies.
The negotiations come as L&T seeks to consolidate its position in the growing green energy market. Itochu, known for its global supply chain in energy and infrastructure, could provide both capital and market access.
While the exact terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, industry observers note that the partnership could accelerate L&T’s expansion into green hydrogen and other clean energy projects.
L&T’s focus on clean energy aligns with India’s national target of achieving 450 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. The company’s clean energy unit has already been involved in several solar and wind projects across the country.
The talks also coincide with L&T’s interest in developing green ammonia export facilities in Kandla, indicating a broader strategy to integrate renewable production with export infrastructure.
