The unrest broke out on campus on Monday, with reports of stone‑throwing and clashes between protesting students and security personnel, prompting police to intervene.
Local authorities confirmed that several students were injured and a few arrests were made as the situation escalated. The university’s management cited safety concerns for the extended shutdown, noting that the campus infrastructure had been damaged and normal teaching could not resume.
The Punjab education department has urged the institution to cooperate with law‑enforcement agencies and to submit a detailed report on the causes of the protest. The university is expected to reopen after the ten‑day period, provided that order and safety are restored, and students have been advised to stay away from the campus until then.
