Lokayukta Takes Over Probe into ₹3 Crore Cash Find at Auto Driver’s Home in Sagar

A Lokayukta‑led five‑member SIT has begun probing the discovery of over ₹3 crore in cash at an auto driver’s residence in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, with the assets of PWD engineer Ramesh Ahirwar also under scrutiny.
Sagar, Madhya Pradesh – Authorities uncovered more than three crore rupees in cash hidden at the residence of an auto‑rickshaw driver earlier this month. The large sum was seized by local police following a routine raid, prompting immediate media attention.
The state Lokayukta has now taken direct control of the investigation, constituting a five‑member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the source and legality of the money. The SIT, comprising senior officers from the police, crime branch and anti‑corruption units, began its inquiry within 24 hours of the Lokayukta’s order.
The probe’s scope has been widened to include the assets of Ramesh Ahirwar, an engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD), whose property records are reportedly linked to the cash find. Investigators will assess whether the funds are connected to any irregularities in public contracts or other illicit activities.
Lokayukta officials have stated that the team will submit a preliminary report within two weeks and will pursue any criminal or disciplinary action as warranted. The case underscores the agency’s heightened focus on corruption in the state’s public service sectors.
