Lokayukta police in Jirapur, Rajgarh district, arrested patwari Seema Dangi and her associate Jamna Prasad for accepting a Rs 7,000 bribe to facilitate a name change.
Lokayukta officials in Jirapur, a town in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, detained a female patwari and her alleged accomplice on suspicion of corruption. The patwari, identified as Seema Dangi, and the associate, known as Jamna Prasad alias Babulu Verma, were taken into custody after investigators uncovered evidence that they had accepted a cash payment of Rs 7,000.
According to the police, the money was offered in exchange for facilitating a name‑change process for a client, a service that is officially regulated and should not involve any personal gain. The officers said the transaction violated the provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Act, which empowers the body to act against public servants engaged in corrupt practices.
The arrested individuals are currently being held for further interrogation, and the case has been forwarded to the district court for legal proceedings. This action underscores the Lokayukta's ongoing efforts to curb petty corruption at the grassroots level in the state.
