Lokayukta Arrests Sub-Engineer in Khandwa Over Rs 14,000 Bribe Demand

The Khandwa Lokayukta busted a sub‑engineer who accepted a Rs 14,000 bribe while a contractor had sought Rs 55,000 to clear a bill.
The Lokayukta office in Khandwa launched a crackdown on corruption after uncovering a bribery scheme linked to a public works contract. Investigators found that a sub‑engineer had taken a cash payment of Rs 14,000 from a contractor in exchange for facilitating the approval of a pending bill.
The contractor, in turn, had demanded a larger sum of Rs 55,000 to ensure the bill’s passage through the relevant department. Both amounts were recorded during a sting operation conducted by the Lokayukta’s anti‑corruption cell.
Following the operation, the sub‑engineer was placed under arrest and handed over to local police for further legal action. The Lokayukta’s statement emphasized that any attempt to influence official processes through monetary inducements will be pursued vigorously under the state’s anti‑corruption laws.
