Leopard Hunt at Gujarat’s Uparkot Fort Spans Four Days, Drones and Tracker Teams Deployed

A leopard that entered Uparkot Fort in Junagadh was pursued for four days by forest officials using drones, tracking teams and temporary cages.
Forest officials in Gujarat launched a coordinated operation after a leopard was sighted inside the historic Uparkot Fort in Junagadh. The animal roamed the fort's courtyards and surrounding walls, prompting a multi‑day chase that lasted four days.
The state forest department deployed two tracker teams equipped with GPS collars and night‑vision gear, while aerial drones were used to monitor the leopard’s movements from above. Five sturdy cages were positioned at strategic points to trap the animal without harming it.
After four days of surveillance and repeated attempts, the leopard was finally cornered and secured in one of the cages. It was then handed over to wildlife authorities for relocation to a protected forest area.
The operation highlighted the increasing reliance on modern technology such as drones in wildlife management, especially in heritage sites where traditional capture methods are limited.
