Left parties intervened to stop a bulldozer that was moving towards a CPI(M) election stall in Jadavpur, Kolkata, forcing it to retreat.

In the Jadavpur area of Kolkata, members of left‑wing parties confronted a bulldozer that was being used to clear a makeshift CPI(M) election stall. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle approached the stall early on Saturday, prompting local activists to block its path and demand that it withdraw.

The confrontation lasted several minutes, after which the bulldozer driver, reportedly under pressure from the gathered crowd, turned the machine around and left the site. No injuries were reported, and the CPI(M) stall remained intact.

Local police were present but did not intervene directly, citing the need to maintain public order. The incident highlights the tense atmosphere ahead of upcoming local elections in West Bengal, where rival political formations are vying for control of public spaces.

Authorities have not released an official statement on the matter, and the left parties have said they will continue to protect their campaign infrastructure from any unauthorized removal.

The episode adds to a series of confrontations in the state as parties mobilise ground‑level support ahead of the vote.
