Heavy rains triggered landslides across Sikkim, wiping out numerous houses and cutting off sources of income for affected families.
Heavy rainfall over the past days has caused multiple landslides in the hilly terrain of Sikkim. The sudden earth movements have razed several residential structures, leaving dozens of families homeless.
The landslides have also disrupted agricultural fields, tea gardens and small‑scale enterprises that form the backbone of local livelihoods. Residents report loss of crops, livestock and access to markets, deepening economic distress in the affected villages.
State disaster officials have begun an on‑ground assessment, deploying rescue teams and providing temporary shelters. Relief measures are being coordinated with local NGOs to address immediate needs while longer‑term rehabilitation plans are drafted.
