The Kuki organization condemned the National Investigation Agency’s recent arrests linked to the ambush on Manipur Chief Minister’s convoy, calling the action biased.

The Kuki community body publicly rebuked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after the agency detained several individuals in connection with the ambush on the Manipur chief minister's convoy. In a statement released on Thursday, the group alleged that the arrests reflected a pattern of selective enforcement, targeting members of the Kuki community while overlooking other suspects.

According to the NIA, the arrests were based on intelligence inputs that linked the detained persons to the planning and execution of the attack that took place earlier this month. The agency has not disclosed the names or the exact number of those taken into custody, citing ongoing investigations.

Kuki leaders, however, argue that the probe is being used to intimidate their community and divert attention from broader political grievances in the state. They called for an impartial inquiry and urged the central government to ensure that law‑enforcement actions are applied uniformly across all groups.

The incident follows heightened tensions in Manipur, where ethnic clashes have periodically erupted since the state’s reorganisation in 2022. The chief minister’s convoy was reportedly targeted on a highway near Imphal, prompting a swift security response and subsequent arrests.

Observers note that the dispute underscores the fragile law‑and‑order situation in the northeastern region and may have implications for upcoming state elections, where community alliances play a decisive role.
