The Kamtong Students Union (KSU) has intensified its demand on the Meghalaya administration for the creation of jobs at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) and the full rollout of the Meghalaya Rural Scholarship Scheme Act (MRSSA).
The Kamtong Students Union (KSU) staged a renewed campaign in Shillong, urging the state government to allocate additional posts at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS). KSU officials argue that the institute, which serves a large portion of the North‑East, requires more staff to meet growing healthcare demands.
In parallel, the union pressed for the swift implementation of the Meghalaya Rural Scholarship Scheme Act (MRSSA), a policy aimed at providing financial support to students from remote districts. KSU representatives claim that delays in MRSSA rollout are hampering educational opportunities for the state's disadvantaged youth.
State officials acknowledged the concerns but said budgetary constraints and procedural formalities need to be addressed before new positions can be sanctioned. They assured that the government is reviewing the union's demands and will report back with a detailed action plan.
The KSU has warned that it will organize further peaceful demonstrations if its requests are not addressed promptly, emphasizing the urgency of both job creation at NEIGRIHMS and the full enforcement of MRSSA for the benefit of Meghalaya's health and education sectors.
