Farmers from the Krishna delta gathered to felicitate Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, thanking him for the inauguration of the Pattiseema water project that channels water to the region.

A group of farmers from the Krishna delta convened on Thursday to express gratitude to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for the recent completion of the Pattiseema water supply scheme. The project, which channels water from the Godavari River to the delta, is expected to boost irrigation and alleviate chronic water shortages that have plagued the region's agriculture.

During the ceremony, farmers presented garlands and a plaque to the chief minister, highlighting the immediate impact of the new water flow on their fields. Local agricultural officials noted that the additional water could increase crop yields by up to 20 percent during the upcoming rabi season.

The Pattiseema lift irrigation system, inaugurated earlier this year, has been a flagship initiative of the state government aimed at linking the Godavari and Krishna basins. State officials said the scheme will benefit over 2 lakh hectares of farmland across the delta, enhancing food security and farmer incomes.

Chief Minister Naidu, speaking to the assembled crowd, reiterated his commitment to expanding water infrastructure and promised further investments in irrigation to sustain the region’s agrarian economy.

The felicitation underscores the political significance of water projects in Andhra Pradesh, where farmer support is pivotal for the ruling party ahead of upcoming elections.
