Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited has warned residents that fraudulent power‑cut messages are circulating, urging people not to act on them.

Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) issued a public advisory after learning that scammers are sending counterfeit notices claiming imminent electricity disconnection. The messages, often appearing as official SMS or WhatsApp alerts, ask consumers to pay a fee or provide personal details to avoid the cut.

KPDCL clarified that the corporation never sends payment requests through informal channels and that any genuine disconnection notice will be delivered only via a registered bill or a direct visit from its field staff. The utility urged customers to verify any such communication by contacting the official helpline.

The corporation also warned that falling for the scam could lead to financial loss and potential misuse of personal data. It advised the public to ignore suspicious messages and report them to the consumer grievance cell.

Authorities are investigating the source of the fake alerts and have asked law enforcement agencies to take action against those responsible for the deception.
