The Kerala Police has introduced a one‑tap SOS button in its official mobile app, enabling users to request immediate assistance during emergencies.
The Kerala Police has rolled out a new one‑tap SOS button within its official mobile application, aimed at providing citizens a swift channel to summon help during emergencies. The feature activates a pre‑configured emergency request that is instantly forwarded to the nearest police control room along with the caller's location.
Users can simply press the SOS icon on the app's home screen, after which a notification is sent to police dispatchers who can coordinate rapid response. The service is available to anyone with a smartphone running Android or iOS, and it does not require a separate registration beyond the existing app login.
According to a statement from the state police, the addition of the SOS button is part of a broader digital initiative to enhance public safety and reduce response times. Officials anticipate that the tool will be particularly useful in situations such as accidents, assaults, or natural disasters where immediate police intervention is critical.
The feature went live on the app earlier this week and is being promoted through a statewide awareness campaign. The police department has also set up a dedicated monitoring desk to handle SOS alerts and ensure that assistance reaches the caller promptly.
