The state cabinet approved a Rs 25.64 crore package to rebuild houses destroyed by recent floods in Pathanamthitta district.
The Kerala cabinet on Tuesday sanctioned a fund of Rs 25.64 crore to reconstruct homes that were washed away or severely damaged during the monsoon floods in Pathanamthitta district. The allocation is part of the state’s post‑disaster rehabilitation programme and will be released through the district administration.
The floods that hit the district in late July left thousands of families homeless, with many structures reduced to rubble. Local authorities reported that over 3,000 houses were either completely destroyed or rendered uninhabitable, prompting urgent relief measures.
The released funds will be disbursed to eligible households through the existing Public Works Department and Rural Development schemes. Officials said the rehabilitation work is expected to begin within the next two weeks, with completion targeted by the end of the year.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, speaking at a press briefing, emphasized that swift reconstruction is essential to restore normalcy and prevent long‑term socio‑economic distress among the affected communities.
