Kazakhstan and India have signed an extradition treaty aimed at strengthening cooperation against transnational crime and terrorism.

New Delhi and Astana officials concluded a bilateral agreement that establishes a legal framework for the surrender of fugitives between Kazakhstan and India. The treaty outlines procedures for the transfer of individuals charged with or convicted of serious offenses, including terrorism and organized crime, across both jurisdictions. Both governments said the pact will close gaps that criminals exploit to evade justice by hopping across borders.

The signing ceremony, attended by senior diplomats from the two countries, highlighted a shared commitment to combatting cross‑border threats. Officials noted that the agreement aligns with existing international conventions and will be complemented by enhanced information‑sharing mechanisms.

Analysts view the treaty as a step toward deeper security cooperation, especially as both nations face challenges from extremist networks and illicit financial flows. The agreement is expected to be ratified by the respective parliaments before it comes into force.
