The Karnataka government announced it will file a petition in the Supreme Court to contest a High Court order that raised the reservation quota for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Bengaluru: The state government of Karnataka said it will approach the Supreme Court to overturn a recent High Court ruling that increased the reservation percentage for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in state institutions.

The High Court judgment, delivered earlier this month, directed the state to adjust its quota structure, prompting officials to argue that the order conflicts with existing state legislation and the broader national reservation framework.

Karnataka's legal team is expected to file the petition within the next few weeks, seeking a stay on the order and a definitive ruling from the apex court on the legality of the quota revision.

State officials declined to disclose the exact percentage increase but reiterated that the move is aimed at preserving the balance of reservations as originally intended by the state government.

The case adds to a series of legal challenges across India concerning reservation policies, reflecting ongoing debates over affirmative action and constitutional limits.
