Karnataka Teachers Suspended for RSS March Get Relief as Tribunal Stays Order

The Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal has stayed the suspension order against teachers who were barred for taking part in an RSS rally, providing them temporary relief.
The Karnataka government had earlier suspended a group of government school teachers after they participated in a public march organized by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The suspension, announced in early June, cited violation of the state’s service rules that prohibit political activities while on duty.
On Wednesday, the Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal (KSAT) issued an interim order staying the suspension, effectively allowing the teachers to resume duties pending a full hearing. The tribunal said the government had not demonstrated sufficient cause to justify the punitive action and that the teachers were entitled to a fair inquiry.
Education officials said the matter would now be examined in detail, and a final decision would be communicated after the tribunal’s comprehensive review. Teacher unions welcomed the stay, calling it a victory for due process, while the ruling party’s representatives expressed disappointment, insisting that disciplinary norms must be upheld.
