A court has directed Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu for a period of 15 days as part of the ongoing water dispute.
A Karnataka High Court bench has directed the state to release 12,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu for a period of 15 days, following a plea by the Tamil Nadu government.
The order comes amid the long‑standing Cauvery water dispute, which has seen periodic clashes over water sharing between the two states.
The court said that the release is necessary to meet Tamil Nadu's irrigation and drinking water needs during the monsoon season.
Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister has welcomed the decision, saying it will help farmers in the western districts.
Karnataka officials are expected to comply with the directive and will monitor the flow from the Kaveri basin reservoirs.
