The Karnataka state government has formally opposed the Kasturirangan Report on the Western Ghats Environmental Status Assessment (ESA). The report, prepared by former ISRO chief scientist Dr. V. Kasturirangan, outlines conservation measures for the ecologically sensitive region.
Officials argue that the recommendations could impose significant restrictions on development projects and adversely affect local livelihoods. They contend that the report does not sufficiently balance environmental protection with economic growth.
