Karnataka has inaugurated a new MEMU train connecting Arasikere with Yelahanka, enhancing regional connectivity.

Karnataka has introduced a new MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) service that links Arasikere in the Hassan district with Yelahanka, a suburb of Bengaluru. The first run of the service began on Monday, with the train operating daily between the two termini.

The MEMU covers a distance of approximately 120 kilometres and makes stops at key stations such as Channarayapatna, Channasandra, and Yelahanka. The journey takes roughly two and a half hours, offering a convenient alternative for commuters traveling between the interior districts and the capital region.

Transport officials say the new service is expected to reduce travel time and ease congestion on the busy Bengaluru–Mysore corridor. It also aims to support local economies by improving access to markets and employment hubs.

While the train’s schedule and fare structure are yet to be finalized, the Karnataka State Railway Department has assured that the MEMU will operate with modern amenities and safety standards befitting the growing demand for regional rail travel.
