The state has decided to implement an Outcome-Based Model in its engineering colleges, shifting focus from marks to hands‑on competencies.

Karnataka's engineering colleges will soon introduce an advanced Outcome-Based Model aimed at enhancing practical skills among students, officials announced. The new learning framework moves away from a sole emphasis on academic scores and prioritises competency‑based outcomes that align with industry requirements.

Under the Outcome-Based Model, curricula will be redesigned to include project work, laboratory experiments and industry‑linked assignments that are assessed on measurable skill acquisition. Faculty members will receive training to evaluate students on performance criteria rather than traditional examinations.

The rollout is planned to begin in the upcoming academic session, with all state‑run engineering institutions expected to adopt the model within two years. Authorities expect the shift to improve graduate employability and better prepare students for real‑world engineering challenges.
