The Karnataka education minister cautioned that the ongoing School Improvement and Review (SIR) activities by teachers could have a negative effect on upcoming board exam outcomes.
Bengaluru: Karnataka's education minister warned that the School Improvement and Review (SIR) programme being undertaken by teachers could jeopardise the performance of students in the forthcoming board examinations. The minister highlighted that while SIR aims to raise school standards, excessive focus on administrative tasks may divert teachers' attention from classroom instruction, potentially lowering student scores.
He urged schools to balance SIR responsibilities with regular teaching duties and said the department will monitor the implementation to ensure academic outcomes are not compromised. The statement comes as the state prepares for the next cycle of secondary and higher secondary board exams, scheduled later this year.
Education officials are expected to issue guidelines that streamline SIR activities without disrupting the teaching schedule, aiming to safeguard both school improvement goals and exam preparedness.
