Karnataka Credits Rain for Cauvery Water Allotment to Tamil Nadu, TN Seeks More

Karnataka officials said the recent water allocation from the Cauvery River to Tamil Nadu was a result of substantial rainfall in the state. The decision was made to meet the agreed share under the 2018 Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal order. Tamil Nadu officials, however, have stated that the allotment was not voluntary and that the state still requires more water to meet its agricultural and domestic needs. The dispute over Cauvery water has long been a contentious issue between the two states, with both sides seeking a fair share of the river’s flow.
