Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated his readiness to hold discussions with Tamil Nadu regarding the Mekedatu dam project, asserting it would serve the interests of both states.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has indicated a willingness to engage in dialogue with Tamil Nadu over the contentious Mekedatu dam project. He expressed that the project is designed to address the drinking water needs of Bengaluru and also facilitate power generation.

Shivakumar emphasized that the implementation of the Mekedatu dam would not adversely impact Tamil Nadu's established share of Cauvery river water. This assurance comes amidst the ongoing dispute between the two southern states concerning the distribution and utilization of Cauvery river water resources.

The Karnataka government views the Mekedatu project as crucial for its capital city's water security and energy requirements. The Chief Minister's statement suggests an opening for a diplomatic resolution to the long-standing inter-state water dispute.
