Chief Minister DK Shivakumar asked Karnataka police to remain on high alert after reports of a BJP threat targeting the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi procession.

Bengaluru, Karnataka – Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has called on the state police to stay on heightened alert following intelligence about a possible threat from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aimed at the Ganesh Chaturthi procession. The CM emphasized that law‑enforcement agencies must ensure the safety of devotees and maintain public order during the festival, which draws large crowds across the state. He instructed senior police officials to coordinate closely with local authorities and to be prepared for any contingencies. No specific incident has been reported yet, and the administration is monitoring the situation closely to preempt any disruption.

The Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, a major religious event in Karnataka, typically involve processions, cultural programs, and large gatherings of worshippers. Shivakumar's directive comes amid heightened political sensitivities, with the BJP allegedly signaling opposition to the procession routes. The CM assured that any attempts to disturb the festivities would be dealt with firmly under the law.

Police spokespersons confirmed that additional patrols and surveillance measures are being deployed in key areas expected to host the procession. The authorities have also urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activity.

The move underscores the state's proactive stance in safeguarding religious events while navigating the political dynamics between the ruling Congress‑led government and the opposition BJP.
