The Karnataka government has written to the Union government seeking urgent intervention to resume issuance of new LPG connections, with about 36,000 pending applications.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka state administration has formally approached the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, requesting that the central government intervene to restart the processing of new LPG connections. Officials say the state’s portal shows a backlog of roughly 36,000 applications that have been stalled due to recent procedural delays.

State officials explained that the pending applications affect households across urban and rural districts, many of which rely on LPG for cooking. The delay has raised concerns about fuel security and affordability for low‑income families.

The Karnataka government has urged the Centre to expedite the clearance of pending files and to provide additional resources or guidance to state agencies. It also asked for a review of the current approval workflow to prevent similar bottlenecks in the future.

No official timeline has been given for when the backlog might be cleared, but the state has pledged to monitor progress closely and keep the public informed.

The request comes as part of broader efforts by state governments to ensure uninterrupted access to essential energy services amid rising domestic fuel demand.
