The Karnataka government today announced a new ring road scheme that will link 172 talukas across the state, providing a network of roads that encircle major cities and towns. The plan, presented by the Chief Minister, is designed to reduce travel time, ease freight movement and support regional development.
Under the proposal, ring roads will be constructed around key urban centres such as Bengaluru, Mangalore, Hubli, and Mysuru, with feeder roads connecting surrounding rural areas. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and improve access to markets for local producers.
The government has earmarked a budget of several thousand crores for the initiative, with construction slated to begin in the next fiscal year. Officials said the scheme will be implemented in phases, prioritising high‑traffic corridors first.
Experts note that improved road infrastructure can attract investment, lower logistics costs and promote balanced growth across Karnataka’s diverse regions.
