Actor Kamlesh Sawant explained why he enjoys playing police officer Sub‑Inspector Gaitonde, how memes have amplified the character, and what draws him to law‑enforcement roles.
Kamlesh Sawant, a veteran of Marathi and Hindi cinema, recently opened up about his portrayal of Sub‑Inspector Gaitonde, a cop character that has struck a chord with viewers. He said the role offered a rare chance to explore the complexities of a law‑enforcement officer while staying true to his own acting instincts.
The actor observed that a wave of social‑media memes featuring Gaitonde has significantly raised the character’s profile. While the memes add a humorous layer, Sawant emphasized that they have not diluted the seriousness of the police persona he aims to present.
According to Sawant, police roles suit him because they blend authority with vulnerability, allowing him to navigate moral dilemmas on screen. This combination, he believes, keeps the performances fresh and engaging for both him and the audience.
