The state’s JSSC-CGL recruitment exam was called off, ending a sit‑in protest but prompting a fresh demonstration by around 2,000 candidates worried about losing their anticipated jobs.

The Joint Selection Committee (JSSC) announced the cancellation of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam scheduled for this month, citing administrative delays and pending legal challenges. The decision was communicated to candidates via the official portal, leaving thousands of aspirants without a clear recruitment timeline.

A protest that had been occupying the state secretariat’s main gate for several days was called off after the exam cancellation was confirmed, with organizers stating that the move addressed their immediate demand for a transparent explanation.

However, the relief was short‑lived. Within hours, a new gathering formed outside the same premises, this time led by roughly 2,000 candidates who fear the cancellation will jeopardize their chances of securing government jobs that many rely on for livelihood.

The demonstrators are demanding an immediate rescheduling of the exam, compensation for the expenses incurred during preparation, and a formal assurance that no further delays will affect the recruitment process. They have also urged the state’s public service commission to provide a detailed timeline.

State officials have acknowledged the concerns and promised to convene an urgent meeting with senior JSSC members. A spokesperson said a decision on a revised exam date would be announced within the next week, while also assuring that candidates will not be penalised for the abrupt cancellation.
