Union Health Minister JP Nadda officially opened a new Rs 39 crore cancer treatment facility at AIIMS Rajkot, enhancing oncology services in Gujarat.
New Delhi – Union Health Minister JP Nadda inaugurated a state‑of‑the‑art cancer treatment centre at AIIMS Rajkot on Thursday. The facility, built at a cost of Rs 39 crore, houses advanced radiotherapy equipment, a surgical oncology unit and a dedicated inpatient ward, aiming to reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for specialized care.
The centre is part of the central government's effort to expand tertiary healthcare infrastructure in western India. Officials said the addition will increase AIIMS Rajkot’s capacity to treat a larger number of cancer patients and support research collaborations with other medical institutions.
During the ceremony, Nadda highlighted the government's commitment to affordable, high‑quality cancer care and urged the medical community to leverage the new resources for early detection and treatment. The inauguration was attended by state health officials and AIIMS administrators.
The new unit is expected to become a regional hub for oncology, providing services ranging from chemotherapy to precision radiotherapy, thereby strengthening Gujarat’s overall health ecosystem.
