The Jammu & Kashmir State Education Department has empowered officials with financial authority over 59 institutions that previously lacked leadership.
The Jammu & Kashmir State Education Department (SED) announced that it will grant financial powers to senior officials overseeing 59 institutions that have been operating without a designated head.
Under the new directive, the officials will be authorized to approve budgets, manage expenditures, and make procurement decisions for the institutions. The move aims to streamline administrative processes and ensure timely financial management.
The 59 institutions, which include schools, colleges and other educational bodies, had previously faced delays in funding approvals due to the absence of a formal leadership structure. By delegating financial authority to the officials, the SED hopes to reduce bottlenecks and improve service delivery.
The decision comes after a review of the institutions’ governance frameworks, which identified gaps in accountability and decision‑making. The SED has stated that it will monitor the implementation closely and review the arrangement after a year.
