In response to a sudden drop in temperatures, the Jammu and Kashmir education department has announced revised school timings for the upcoming week.

The Jammu and Kashmir education department has issued a new timetable for schools across the state following a sharp fall in temperatures that has raised safety concerns for students and staff.

Under the revised schedule, classes will now start at 9:00 am and finish at 3:30 pm, with a 30‑minute break at noon. The change is effective from Monday and will remain in place until the weather improves.

Officials cited the risk of students walking in freezing conditions and the need to reduce exposure to cold air as the primary reasons for the adjustment. The department also urged parents to ensure children are adequately dressed and to monitor weather updates.

Teachers and parents have largely welcomed the decision, noting that it will help prevent health issues such as respiratory infections and cold‑related fatigue among students.
