Since April, Jammu & Kashmir police have detained more than 4,000 suspects in a nationwide drug‑free drive aimed at curbing narcotic trafficking.

The Jammu & Kashmir police announced that more than 4,000 individuals have been arrested since the launch of a drug‑free campaign in April. The operation, which targets both users and traffickers, is part of a broader effort to curb the flow of narcotics through the region.

Jammu & Kashmir has long been a key transit corridor for drug smuggling from Afghanistan and Central Asia. By intensifying enforcement, authorities aim to disrupt supply chains that feed into the national drug market.

Police officials said the crackdown also seeks to reduce drug addiction among local communities, with rehabilitation centers being set up for those arrested. The campaign is expected to continue until the end of the year, with periodic reviews of its impact on drug prevalence.
