The Jammu and Kashmir Congress has ruled out participation in the cabinet being formed by Omar Abdullah and has reiterated its demand for full statehood for the region.
The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Indian National Congress announced that it will not become part of the cabinet being assembled by former chief minister Omar Abdullah. The party’s statement made clear that it will stay outside the coalition government being discussed in the state.
In the same communication, the Congress reiterated its long‑standing demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, a status it lost after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The party said the demand remains central to its political agenda in the region.
The decision underscores the Congress’s intent to maintain an independent stance on key constitutional issues while navigating the evolving political landscape of the union territory.
