Jharkhand state has announced a new policy allowing prisoners to leave jail at 7 a.m. and return by evening, aiming to improve rehabilitation and reduce overcrowding.
The Jharkhand government has rolled out a new protocol that permits inmates to exit their cells at 7 a.m. and must return before dusk.
The measure is part of a broader effort to ease prison overcrowding and facilitate community reintegration.
Under the scheme, prisoners will be allowed to visit family, attend work or educational programs, and then report back to the facility by evening.
The policy will be monitored by prison officials and is expected to be evaluated after six months.
